CPR Slurry Car
Suggested Retail: $34.95
CPR ordered two series of these
specialized cars in 1967 and 1969 to haul nickel slurry around the Sudbury area; 20 with
script lettering (1967 series) and 40 with Multi-Mark lettering (1969 series). While
at first glance these cars appear very similar to the Barrel Ore cars that ONR and CNR
owned to carry iron ore (our kits HO-1044 to 1048), they are
different cars. One major difference is that the slurry cars have open trough
hatches, as there is no reason to keep rainwater out of the slurry. These cars were
no longer hauling slurry after 1993, and most were scrapped.
CP converted some of these cars to scale test cars, which are still in
service. A few more of these cars are being used as idler cars in a ferry operation
in British Columbia.
